Shea-ing in pain

I've done the Shea Stadium trip on the verge of chicken pox, so to make the trek to Flushing on Wednesday night given my current malady (let's just say day-to-day with an "undisclosed non-life threatening injury" and the possibility of a DL stint for now) was a little more difficult than usual, but the view from Loge 2 Row H Seat 2 wasn't so bad by game's end (despite the many fans walking the aisles who got in the way...my dad had Seat 1, a much better alternative). I'm going to be brief in summarizing walk-off #338 as the hour is late and my injury is bothersome enough that I'll be finishing the AB (ala Carlos Beltran) but may be in need of a little rest.

* The 8th walk-off win of the season capped the most eventful walk-off month in team history (Was it the Most Metmorable Regular-Season Month in Team History???). The Mets had 7 walk-off wins in May, winning on both the first and last day in walk-off fashion.

* To answer a query from the comments section, the most walk-offs in a season is 14, set in 1971, so we're on pace to catch that. The last season with double-digits in the regular season was 1997, which had 10

* The 8 walk-offs matches the total from all of last season. The Mets also had 8 in all of 2004. The last year they had more was in 1999 when they had 10, including postseason.

* The Mets entered the season with 2 walk-off wins against Arizona. They've matched that total from the work of the last 3 days.

* This was the 22nd 1-0 Mets walk-off win and the first since, well, last season (April 13, 2005 vs HOU).

* The longest 1-0 Mets walk-off win went 17 innings...September 29, 1993 vs STL, best known as Kenny Greer's only MLB win.

* 2-for-2 is a rare line for a batter who gets a walk-off hit. Endy Chavez is the 4th Met to go 2-for-2 and get a walk-off hit in the same game, joining Tommie Reynolds, Rey Ordonez, and Esix Snead, with Snead's (September 21, 2002 vs Expos) being most recent.

* Jason Grimsley, who has been around long enough to have pitched against the Mets in 1989, is 1-5 for his career against the Mets, but this is his first walk-off loss. He's the first Grimsley to lose a walk-off against the Mets (Ross Grimsley never did).
